Storm Light
The light after a summer shower or thunderstorm can oftentimes be incredible, such as this occasion at the Curtis Island Overlook.
I love when showers and thunderstorms come rolling along the coast on summer afternoons…the leading edge of such storms bring tremendous cloud formations that are really awesome to photograph. But perhaps even more spectacular is the light that will often come afterward, as the sun appears on the backside of the storm and provides amazing contrast between the dark clouds and vibrant afternoon light.
I remember on this particular evening I was coming into Camden as the sun came out from behind the curtain of a heavy downpour and the landscape was bathed in some incredibly vibrant light. I ran down to the Curtis Island Overlook to see if there might be a shot, and what a beautiful scene it was. The rain had ceased but water was still dropping down from the trees overhead as a rainbow appeared just to the north of the island. You just don’t find much better light than this!
